Get the most secure cloud storage for photos to keep your albums and memories safe forever

Cloud storage for photos is online storage where image files are encrypted on your device before upload, so the provider can store the data but cannot view, scan, or hand over the contents. With Google Photos, Dropbox, or OneDrive, the provider holds the keys and reserves the right under terms of service to scan album contents for content moderation, ad targeting, or AI training. Internxt holds only ciphertext.

A private photo cloud keeps every share inside that boundary, whether it is a family album sent to grandparents, vacation shots shared with friends, or a client gallery handed to a non-technical reviewer. Every album stays encrypted with AES-256, and the encryption key never leaves your device. The five blocks below cover the architecture: how passwords work, how share links travel, how shared folders handle a 5 TB library, where files live, and how the plan scales.

Password-protected photo album sharing

Password protection

Secure cloud storage for photos means the encryption keys live on your device, not the provider's servers. The photo is encrypted with AES-256 before it leaves your hardware, and the provider stores only ciphertext, unreadable without the key. When you add a password to a shared album, folder, or link, the password gates decryption: only people with the password can decrypt and view the contents.

Compare that to Google Photos or OneDrive sharing, where the provider holds the encryption key and can read what you share with anyone. Internxt does not have the technical ability to do that. The password is what makes the album opaque to a recipient without it. The architecture is what makes the album opaque to us. Not for hackers, not for advertisers, not for us.

Encrypted photo album shared via secure link

Shared links

Private cloud photo storage means a shared link carries the photos in encrypted form, not the photos themselves. Create a link from your Internxt dashboard, set an expiration or revoke it whenever you need to, and paste the active link into email or chat. The recipient opens the album in any browser. No Internxt account is required, no app needs installing, and the photos open in their original quality.

The decryption happens on the recipient's device, not on Internxt's servers. That is the difference between sharing through Google Photos, where the provider sees what you share with whom, and sharing through a private photo cloud, where the share is opaque to the provider by design. No Internxt account, no server-readable copy in transit, no advertising scan along the way.

Cloud storage for photographers with shared folder permissions

Share folders

The best cloud storage for photos handles a 5 TB RAW library, a one-off client gallery, or a shared family album with the same control surface. Create a shared folder, set edit or view-only access per person, and contributions land in one place. This works for a wedding photographer collecting deliverables from a second shooter, a family pooling holiday photos, or a freelancer handing over an unedited shoot to an editor.

For photographers working with RAW files, Internxt offers up to 5 TB on a single plan, and lifetime options stack for libraries beyond that. Every photo in the folder is encrypted on your device before upload, so collaborators see exactly what you give them and Internxt sees only ciphertext. Keys stay on your hardware. People you invite see the photos. We cannot.

European cloud storage for photos in EU data centers

Where your photos live

Where a photo provider is incorporated determines whose courts can compel them to hand over your data. US-based services operate under the CLOUD Act, which lets US authorities subpoena data even when it sits on servers in another country. Internxt is incorporated in Valencia, Spain, and stores customer data in EU data centers operated through OVHcloud. That puts the company under GDPR (including your right to access, port, and delete your photos) and outside the reach of CLOUD Act subpoenas.

Jurisdiction is one half of the privacy claim. Encryption is the other. Internxt encrypts every photo on your device, so even within EU jurisdiction the company would have nothing readable to hand over. ISO 27001:2022 certification and an independently audited codebase make those claims verifiable.

Lifetime cloud storage for photos library scaling

Cloud storage for photos that scales with you

Cloud storage for photos that scales with you means a plan that grows with the library, not against it. A new phone with a 48 MP sensor, a year of RAW shoots, a decade of family albums: the storage you bought in 2020 is rarely the storage you need in 2030. Internxt's plans range from 1 TB to 5 TB on monthly or annual billing, with lifetime cloud storage options that pay once and stack across multiple plans for libraries that exceed any single tier.

Lifetime is structured for photographers and long-term archivists. Instead of a recurring fee that grows with inflation, the storage cost is fixed at the moment of purchase. Every plan includes the same encryption, the same EU jurisdiction, and the same zero-knowledge architecture. The only thing that changes is how much fits inside the trust circle.

How to choose cloud storage services for your photos

Finding online cloud storage for photos can be challenging. To make things easier, consider the following advice to help you choose.

Cost

Free cloud storage for photos may work for small collections, but it may come with storage limits and fewer security features. It's important to compare pricing based on the amount of storage and features you need. With Internxt, you can get secure cloud storage for photos from €2 per month, or choose from our lifetime plans, which you can stack to get as much storage as you need.

Security

Not all providers offer the same level of protection, and many online cloud storage for photos providers, while secure, often prioritize convenience over privacy. Some use data tracking, scan your files for AI training, or share data with third parties. To keep your photos private, look for a provider offering end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge policies, and independent security audits.

Extra features

Extra features may be necessary depending on your needs, and choosing the right cloud storage for photos can make your cloud storage experience more efficient, reliable, and secure. Internxt offers secure cloud storage for photos and includes a VPN and antivirus with all paid plans, providing an all-in-one solution to protect you from data breaches, losses, and other cyberattacks.

The Best Cloud Storage for Your Photo Collection

Manage and back up photos with Internxt. Recover lost files if you accidentally delete an album.

Free up local storage

We offer a virtual drive to manage your online storage for photos, which acts like a regular hard drive on your computer to automatically sync photos in the cloud without taking up storage on your device.

This setup gives you quick access to your photos to back up, organize, and sync them, freeing up your device storage. Any changes you make are synced automatically, so you always have access to the latest versions of your files.

Cloud storage for RAW photos

For photographers working with large, high-quality images, it can be challenging to find cloud storage for RAW photos with adequate storage plans to meet the demands of these image types.

RAW photos are unprocessed and contain more data than standard image formats, making them ideal for editing, but they have the disadvantage of being much larger. Internxt offers up to 5TB of online storage for photos to meet your needs.

Restore your photos

A problem many people face is losing access to their photos due to device failure, accidental deletion, data loss, or ransomware. Secure cloud storage for photos also includes backups, a reliable solution to protect your memories so you can access them whenever you need them.

Internxt encrypts all your files and backs them up automatically to the cloud. They are only accessible to you, so nobody except you can view your files. Our zero-knowledge encryption guarantees your privacy so you can get the most secure cloud storage for photos.

Post-quantum encryption

Internxt is the first cloud storage for photos that secures your files with award-winning post-quantum encryption.

This means we offer the most secure cloud storage for photos to protect your files against quantum computers, which could break current encryption protocols, ensuring that your images remain safe and private even as technology advances.

Antivirus protection

Internxt paid plans also include Antivirus protection built into Internxt Drive, offering increased security for your files to prevent malware from infecting your devices or deleting your data.

With Internxt Antivirus, you get additional protection for your photos by running custom or full system scans on your photos. The software will scan for potential malware so you can identify and delete potential infections that could corrupt or steal your images.

Open source and verified

Open-source cloud storage for photos means the code we use to build our software is publicly available, allowing security experts to audit and verify its safety.

Choosing an open-source, audited cloud storage provider offers increased transparency, ensuring no hidden vulnerabilities, backdoors, or data tracking. We provide everything you need to give you complete confidence that your data remains private and secure from unauthorized access.

Questions? We have answers

Storing photos with Internxt is simple: create an account at internxt.com (free 1 GB plan, or paid plans starting at €2/month), then upload from any device. The web app at drive.internxt.com works in any browser; the desktop app for Windows, Mac, and Linux mounts as a virtual drive that syncs photos automatically; the mobile app for iOS and Android lets you back up the camera roll with one tap. All photos are encrypted on your device before they reach Internxt's servers.

A rough rule: 1 TB stores around 250,000 photos at 12 MP (smartphone-quality JPEG averaging ~4 MB each), or about 12,500 RAW files at 80 MB each. For a casual phone photographer, 1 TB lasts five to ten years of normal shooting. For a working photographer with RAW workflows, 5 TB stores roughly 60,000 RAW files, enough for several years of professional work. Internxt offers plans from 1 TB to 5 TB; lifetime stacking handles libraries beyond that.

Yes. The Internxt mobile app for iOS and Android includes automatic camera-roll backup: enable it once, and new photos and videos sync to your Internxt account in the background while your device charges and is connected to Wi-Fi. Photos upload encrypted from the device, so Internxt never sees the unencrypted images. The web and desktop apps let you browse the same backed-up photos from any platform.

For photographers prioritizing privacy and ownership, Internxt offers the strongest combination of zero-knowledge encryption (the provider cannot read your files), post-quantum cryptography (Kyber-512), open-source verifiable code, and lifetime plans that pay once instead of recurring monthly. The page-by-page comparison against Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox, or pCloud comes down to one question: do you want your photos accessible to your provider's encryption keys, or only to yours? Internxt answers no to the first option.

Cloud storage and cloud backup are related but different. Cloud storage for photos is online storage where your photos sync between devices in real time. Change a photo on your phone, and the change appears on your laptop. Cloud backup is a one-way copy that protects against loss: you upload photos for safekeeping, and the backup copy sits unchanged until you need to restore it. Internxt offers both: cloud storage via the desktop and mobile apps, and cloud backup as a separate feature on paid plans.
